What is the Chancenkarte?
The Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card) is a German residence permit that lets you come and look for a job on site for one year, without having a work contract beforehand. There are two routes. If your qualification is fully recognised in Germany, you fall under the skilled worker status and do not need points. Otherwise the points route applies: you need at least 6 points on the criteria of § 20b of the German Residence Act, on top of the basic requirements (qualification, financial means, health insurance, minimum language level).

How many points do I need?
Six points minimum, out of a maximum of sixteen. The scoring is set by the appendix to the German Residence Act (AufenthG).
Is this calculation official?
The scoring used is that of § 20b AufenthG and its appendix. The result remains an indicative estimate: only the German authorities decide on your application.
What is the fastest way to gain points?
Almost always German. Going from A2 to B1 earns one point, and B1 to B2 one more — two points for two levels of progress.
Do I need a job contract?
No. That is precisely the point of the Chancenkarte: it lets you come and look for a job on site for a year.
